School Moto: Reach Out And Achieve
History
PETS, as our school is fondly referred to, began with a theme of ethos. Its establishment in 1976 was as a result of the sheer determination of the Honorable Alfonso Dennie.
Mr. Dennie, at that time, was the Minister of education and the Parliamentary Representative of this constituency – the North Leeward Constituency. He was very concerned about at the high number of students, in the communities of North Leeward, who finished their education at the primary school level. This situation was due to the fact that most of the secondary schools in St.Vincent were located in Kingstown. And besides this, they catered mainly to students from wealthy families.
There were no school buses in North Leeward to transport those students who would have qualified for entrance to secondary schools in Kingstown. Moreover, parents lacked the finance to pay for their children’s tuition, boarding and lodging. This prompted Mr. Dennie to seek help at the international level.
In 1974, the Canadian Government helped the Government of St.Vincent in constructing schools in rural St.Vincent. Mr. Dennie’s dream became a reality. PETS was constructed, and in 1976, it opened its doors to students of secondary age from the Petit Bordel – Fitz-Hughes communities.
Mr. Ormond Williams was its first Principal.
